Paxil Lawsuits Faced By GlaxoSmithKline

Paxil Lawsuit

Being one of the leading antidepressants in market, many people trust Paxil. Paxil was introduced in the year 1992 by GlaxoSmithKline and has been on demand since then due to the growing number of people. Taking antidepressants are often made appealing especially because of the frequent publicity it has been given in television and Internet. People usually turn to the Internet for any information that they would need. Recently people even try to diagnose themselves by looking at the signs and symptoms that they see in the Internet. It may also be a way of reaching out to patients as said by a doctor with regards to using the Internet. As technology expands, diagnosing depression by means of the Internet is now a being considered by two doctors who have conducted a study about it.

Thus more people will be able to know if they are indeed depressed and could immediately go to a doctor for consultation. Most of the surveys for depression are given after a consultation with a medical doctor. Doctors do a thorough investigation first before prescribing antidepressants. Although antidepressants like Paxil does help in minimizing the symptoms of depression, most people are filing lawsuits against the manufacturer. The people who are filing these cases are claiming that they weren’t informed of the side effects of Paxil. Side effects of Paxil differ from less serious to severe. The core rationale why people are filing charges is that they have experienced severe side effects when they used Paxil. Using Paxil when they were pregnant made other women’s babies develop heart defects.

A higher risk for developing birth defects in babies can be seen when the mother takes Paxil during the first trimester. Although the more common defect found in these babies are heart defects like Atrial and Ventricular Septal defect. This defect is described as having a wall in the lower chamber of the heart. This hole usually closes after sometime but if not then it must be surgically closed in order not to endanger the life of the baby. Some parents of these babies have already filed Paxil lawsuit against GlaxoSmithKline in the hope of getting compensation from the manufacturer.
